Setting up your YaBB
- Now it's time to run the Setup Utility provided in the YaBB package. Call Setup.pl by typing in your browsers address bar:
Modify this URL to fit your installation! If your website domain is "mysite.com" and you installed YaBB in "forum," then your url would be http://www.mysite.com/forum/Setup.pl.
- You must type in the system password ('admin' as default). The Setup Utility will first ask you to set some basic, but very important settings. These will affect the operation of your new forum and conversion if you are upgrading from an old release.
- The Setup Utility will now search for the paths to your forum files and show them in a form to let you check/correct the setup.
- After setup you should be ready to login and test your new forum.... Visit the following URL:
Again, modify this URL to fit your specific website and YaBB installation location.
- After you have successfully run your YaBB board from the web, you need to try logging in. The default username is "admin" and default password is "admin". They will always be so when you install a new YaBB board. Login with that information, and you should see an "Admin" icon in the menu of the YaBB forum. Clicking it will take you to the "Admin Center" where you can see all sorts of nifty things to do.
- Test everything (that you know exists), such as posting, registering a new member, modifying messages, etc. Then you are either ready to create categories and boards or to convert your existing YaBB 1 data!
- If you are NOT converting from a version of YaBB 1.x, use your FTP client to delete 'cgi-bin/yabb2/Setup.pl' and 'cgi-bin/yabb2/Variables/setup.lock.' This will prevent anyone from tampering with your forum using the Setup Utility.
